From the forest to the Beach by the heart of Marin County
Just north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Tamalpais State Park rises majestically.
This is a hard 10-mile hike. We will start on Whitegate Ranch Trailhead, climb the stairs, a tone of stairs… Then walk-up 2 hours to the top, make a stop for a picnic and continue on the trail all the way to Stinson Beach. You will enjoy the break on the beach, before finishing the loop to the parking (an extra hour). For your comfort, bring a small towel in your backpack.
Its deep canyons and sweeping hillsides are cloaked with cool redwood forests, oak woodlands, open grasslands, and sturdy chaparral. On a clear day, the breathtaking panorama from Mount Tamalpais’ 2,571-foot peak includes the Farallon Islands 25 miles out to sea, the Marin County hills, San Francisco Bay, the East Bay, and Mount Diablo.
